Leftover Loaf French Toast
Day-old bread is the star here.

Ingredients
- 1 leftover loaf of bread, sliced to 1 inch thickness
- 1/2 cup half and half
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- Butter (1/2 tablespoon per slice)
- Maple syrup (optional)
- Fresh fruit (optional)
- Powdered sugar (optional)
Method
- Slice bread (preferably day-old!) and set aside.
- Whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla extract, cardamom, and cinnamon in a glass baking dish.
- Melt a tablespoon of butter in a non-stick or seasoned cast iron pan.
- While melting butter, soak a slice of bread in the egg mixture, flipping so it absorbs on both sides.
- Fry the bread in the pan, flipping when it gets golden brown.
- Remove from pan and enjoy with maple syrup, fresh fruit, powdered sugar, or any other desired toppings.
